Local girl says thank you |
...by launching St Vincent's Brisbane's Brick by Brick campaign.
By way of a thank you to St Vincent's Hospital Brisbane, formerly Mt Olivet Hospital, Alexis Talcott-Curry, a young woman you might not think of as a typical St Vincent's patient, launches the Friends of Mt Olivet, St Vincent's Hospital Brisbane's capital campaign.
In 2002, Alexis and a friend were on their way to Mooloolaba when a speeding car, travelling in the opposite direction, veered out of control.
"The car clipped a ute in front of us, then hit us. The air bags engaged so we were very lucky, but the other car burst into flames. In hospital, they found I'd broken bones below my shoulder and above my knee on my left side, and cracked several ribs and vertebrae.
My arm was so damaged they were afraid to operate. They put a plate in my leg and stapled it. I needed help to do everything - even to roll over in bed. I couldn't use crutches, and my house was not equipped for a wheelchair, so going home was not an option."

New and Expanded Services |
|
....Comprising 164 beds the hospital is complementing its traditional strengths with a broader base of services which include rehabilitation, palliative medicine, management of persistent pain and gerontology. Adding to the already established clinical pharmacy and pathology, Queensland X-ray will establish a comprehensive radiology imaging service in July 2010.
St Vincent's Hospital Brisbane point of difference continues to be its service that meets the needs of those who are often not a priority at tertiary facilities - the aged and the chronically ill. By developing a medical hospital with a focus on general medicine/gerontology, persistent pain management, rehabilitation and palliative care medicine, St Vincent's is not so much in competition with large public and private tertiary facilities but offering a solution that will free beds in these hospitals for sicker patients who require higher acuity care e.g. intensive care & surgery. |
