The Tarmons Centre - Palliative Care Services

Living now living well

When we at St Vincent's wanted to find a name for our new palliative care unit we looked to our heritage. Literally Tarmons means sanctuary and is the name of the nineteenth century home of the Sisters of Charity which still stands today at Potts Point in Sydney. The Tarmons Centre does not just represent a new unit rather it is the collective name for the expanding in-patient, out-patient and home care service that we provide.

The Tarmons Centre provided an integrated Specialist Palliative Care Service designed to support anyone diagnosed with a life limiting illness.

Our expertise may be needed at diagnosis, during treatment or at the end of life and can go alongside treatment given by other specialists and your GP.

Our care is holistic encompassing physical, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions and includes both the patient and family as the unit of care.  We are concerned not only about treating physical symptoms but also how you are coping and responding to your illness.

Referrals to the service can be made by anyone, other doctors, nurses, carers or families (with the patients consent) or the patient themselves. We would always  discuss the referral with the patients GP.

The aim of the service is to enhance patient wellbeing and maintain independence despite the underlying illness.
