St Vincent's Brisbane is a private Catholic not-for-profit hospital which is just completing a building and clinical services upgrade. Comprising 164 beds the hospital is complementing its traditional strengths with a broader base of services which include rehabilitation, palliative medicine, management of persistent pain and gerontology. Adding to the already established clinical pharmacy and pathology, Queensland X-ray will establish a comprehensive radiology imaging service in July 2010.
St Vincent's Hospital Brisbane point of difference continues to be its service that meets the needs of those who are often not a priority at tertiary facilities - the aged and the chronically ill. By developing a medical hospital with a focus on general medicine/gerontology, persistent pain management, rehabilitation and palliative care medicine, St Vincent's is not so much in competition with large public and private tertiary facilities but offering a solution that will free beds in these hospitals for sicker patients who require higher acuity care e.g. intensive care & surgery.
